Praise to the emptiness that blanks out existence. Existence: this place made from our love for that emptiness!
Yet somehow comes emptiness,
this existence goes.
Praise to that happening, over and over,
For years I pulled my own existence out of emptiness
Then one swoop, one swing of the arm,
that work is over.
Free of who I was, free of presence, free of
dangerous fear, hope,
free of mountainous wanting
The here-and-now mountain is a tiny piece of a piece of straw blown off into emptiness.
These words I’m saying so much begin to lose meaning: existence, emptiness, mountain, straw: words and what they try to say swept out the window,
down the slant o the roof. – Rumi
Rumi; we see his poetry being shared on social media all the time. A lot of his sayings are relatable. A lot of his words represent our lives. A lot of his words motivate us to live another day, better than before.
A Persian poet from the 13th century, Rumi is still remembered for his amazing work. We get to read his snippets often but listen to recitals, not so much. This time Cafe M arranged an amazing event that was all about Rumi’s Mystical Poetry.
Mr. Humza Siddiqui, Mr. Ali Abbas Mirza & Mr. Usman Ahmed hosted the event whereas Mr Rasheed Noorani was the guest speaker who recited Rumi’s famous poetry and shared anecdotes from the Masnavi.
Mr Noorani recited different poems in Persian and his poetic voice captured the attention of each and every person present. The Persian version was followed by an English or Urdu translation so the crowd could understand them better.
Each and every member of the audience seemed to be a Rumi lover and thoroughly enjoyed the event.
Karachi has a lot of events organized all year round mainly related to food and music but these kind of events are rarely held. It would be great if Cafe M arranges more of these for all the Karachittes out there as it’s a lot more than just entertainment.
