If you can’t feed a hundred people, then feed just one- Mother Teresa
Last Ramadan, Team Urban Redefined along with their volunteers headed to Bint-e-Fatima Old Home Trust (Karachi) to drop off the monthly grocery and have Iftari/Dinner with the old ladies living there.
It was our first food drive and it went really well. The women warmly welcomed us as if they had known us forever. Their cheerful attitude allowed us to get comfortable soon and then the chit chat began until Iftar/Dinner was served.
Talking to these ladies we realized how blessed we are that we get to live with our families and have them around most of the time if not all. However, these women had made each other their family. A family that prays together stays together.
Mrs Farzana Shoaib and her son Mr Asad are doing a marvelous job taking care of these women who were left here by their family members. Sadly, most of them never returned to even meet them.
The mother-son makes them follow a proper routine keeping their age and health conditions in mind. This allows them to mingle with others and not feel lonely. They watch television. They play board games. They have a good time together! Not just this. Doctors and psychologists make regular visits to Binte Fatima Old Home Trust to make sure each one of them is doing well.
It really disheartened us to know that the parents who look after their children when they are more or less helpless were left with strangers to be taken care of. Hope we all realize the importance of parents and give them the treatment they deserve. Let’s not forget that heaven lies under the feet of a mother. You’ll love and respect your parents. Your children will love and respect you.
